Today
we started out before sunup. We were on our way to Presque
Isle, and wanted to be sure and get there during daylight. It rained most of the
day, and we motorsailed when we could, but the winds were very
light.
The radar was starting to become more
of a focal point as we entered areas of reduced visibility and rain
showers. The cans and markers were pretty easy to pinpoint as we worked
our way past Thunder Bay Light, and started our turn westbound.
By early afternoon, we were nearing
Presque Isle, and the weather started to clear. A radio call caught the
dockhand as he was about to leave for the day. We were only the second
boat he'd seen in the last 5 1/2 hours! Another suprise, none of the
shallow water channel markers were in place yet. The DNR hadn't gotten
around to it yet. Luckily, the chartplotter had the markers displayed, so
we navigated past the phantom marks keeping a close watch on the
depth.
A gorgeous night in the harbor,
the best yet. And we arrived in time for an afternoon walk to the Old
Presque Isle Light. |
