Again this year our March General Meeting is being
held at Crowley’s Yacht Yard on Saturday, March 27, as part of their annual
Yachtapalooza. While we don’t have an exact room location for the meeting yet,
it will be listed on the Yachtapalooza schedule and is usually around 3 p.m.
You’ll want to come before that though.
The event kicks off at 8 am and the seminars begin at 9 a.m. Topics this year
include engine maintenance, weather, fiberglass repair, rigging maintenance,
facelift for your boat, sail trim, your first Mac race, and even one on
everything you want to know (or may not want to know) about the Asian Carp
issue. A complete schedule is at www.crowleys.com. As of today, times were not
listed. In addition to the free seminars, Nautical Donations is once again
holding their ANNUAL FLEA MARKET during Yachtapalooza. If you need equipment,
hardware, supplies and gear to outfit your boat for the coming season, check out
this tent. All proceeds benefit sailing non profits in the greater Chicago area.
There will also be special discounts in Crowley’s store—the VC-17 is always a
popular seller.
You can buy hot dogs, brats, roast pig, chicken, and burgers for lunch. Live
entertainment too! After our General Meeting we’ll adjourn to Pucci’s Restaurant
at 10062 S. Ewing. The restaurant is five blocks south of Crowleys with free
parking available.
A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMODORE
March is here and the snow is pretty much gone; for now. As I write this the
weather is getting better and I am starting to think about the list of spring
projects that I will need to do before splash. As always the list will be longer
than the number of day I have to complete it.
It was a nice break from the winter getting together with a bunch of fellow
sailors at the annual Chicago Maritime Festival at the Chicago History Museum on
February 27th. A small group from fleet 21 attended the festival where they
attended seminars, watched demonstrations and were entertained by old style
maritime musicians. As is our custom Fleet 21 paid half of the admission price
of the days activities.
In the spirit of the spring project list, our next event will be the annual
Yachatapalooza at Crowley’s Yacht Yard on March 27th. At this time I have not
been informed about the time or meeting room where we will be meeting but I have
been assured that we will have a venue for our meeting. Mickie and I usually
come early and attend some of the seminars, check out the garage sale tent and
just look for what’s on sale. We always seem to run into some of our dock
neighbors that we haven’t seen all winter. The food is always superb and they
always have some form of entertainment. So make plans to come out early and get
your bottom paint or that special wax that you need, and then attend the general
meeting. After the meeting we will make our way over to Pucci’s restaurant for
on south Ewing for dinner and a cocktail. Looking forward to seeing you there.
We are actively working on speakers for our upcoming meetings and if you have
any ideas please give one of the board members or me a call.
That’s all for now. Hope to see everyone at Crowley’s or at the boatyard in the
coming weeks.
