Our next Fleet 21 General Meeting is all about fine tuning. Daniel Knight from Crowley’s Yacht Yard will demonstrate on one of our Catalina boats how to tune your rigging. A few adjustments can make a difference in your speed or handling. Find out just what to tweak. The meeting is Tuesday, June 16, at the Burnham Park Yacht Club. The demonstration will take place on the yacht club docks (ED) at 6:30 p.m. (Please note the earlier start time). After the tuning demonstration, we’ll move to the yacht club for our meeting and dinner. Please call 312-427-4664 and make reservations for dinner. A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMODORE We started off the season with a bang this year! Thanks to the DeAre’s, Shereyk’s and the Lauraitis’ for throwing one great Margarita party. We had 68 people attend the party on the lawn just south of BPYC and 53 people stayed on for the buffet style dinner provided by the club. Everyone brought something tasty to eat and there was a raffle of some items that were donated by Mickie Thompson and Lori Lauraitis. In all a great start to the 2009 sailing season. Ted Kuenzli distributed the directories to all of the members that attended the Margarita party and has additional copies available for $2.00 for anyone that is interested. We had scheduled a Sunflower raft up for June 13th but we have had difficulty working out the venue. In discussing this idea with the board it was determined that we would be better off waiting until later in the summer to attempt this outing. I will work on rescheduling and report back in the future. Our next activity will be the General Meeting on June 16th. The meeting will start early at 6:30 this time in order to allow our guest to demonstrate the art of rig tuning on one of our own boats. Daniel Knight from Crowley’s Yacht Yard will give the demonstration to show us step-by-step how to tune the mast for optimal performance. After the demonstration we will retire to the club for dinner and a short meeting. Please give the yacht club a call and reserve your spot for dinner, they are gracious hosts and that will help them plan for what I think will be a well attended meeting. Now, since our rigs are in top shape we need somewhere to sail to! Dave and Carolyn DeAre have just the answer. The next outing will be the Summer Sailstice to New Buffalo Michigan. This outing is perfect for the longest days of the year. New Buffalo offers a great little town to shop and explore, a nice beach and good dining and pubs within walking distance of the harbor. It’s also a short sail from most of our harbors. So check the flyer for details and let Dave and Carolyn know you’re coming. Please also note that we added an outing in August; we will be sailing to Waukegan harbor on the weekend of August 15th. Oscar Lutz at Waukegan put together a fun weekend of activities, so please see the flyer for additional information. Thanks again to everyone on the board and the committees who worked so hard getting everything ready. I look forward to seeing everyone sailing this summer.
