SUMMER FUN
There is no general meeting in July, instead we hope you are out enjoying your
boat and the company of other Fleet members. While one group of Fleet boats is
cruising Door County, others are getting together in local harbors.
If you have digital photos of your fun times, email them to deare30@sbcglobal.net
for publication in future Fleet Sheets.
Yet to come this summer is the LMCA Rendezvous in Holland, Michigan on July 21 –
23 and the Hammond Marina Symphony Under the Stars outing on August 5. Our next
general meeting is Tuesday, August 15 at the Burnham Park Yacht Club featuring
model boats. See details inside.
A MESSAGE FROM THE
COMMODORE
Hopefully you have all had a few good sails in-between the scattered
thunderstorms and cool weather. The month of June ended with a triple header for
our fleet with the general meeting and flea market on Thursday, followed my a
cool night on the Red Witch on Friday and topped off with a Gilligan’s Island
themed party at Jackson Park Yacht Club. What a fun packed weekend.
This week brings many of us to the last minute details of preparing for the Door
County Cruise. I personally am very excited about this new experience for me. As
a novice in 2003, one of the main reasons I joined the Fleet was to learn about
sailing and my Catalina sailboat. This trip will prove to be not only a lot of
fun, but also educational for me as I absorb the combined knowledge and skills
of many of our more experienced members.
The will be no meetings or outings in July but that does not mean that your club
is not working for you. Programs and Outings are still being planned and will
continue to be announced throughout the season in your Fleet Sheet and on the
web. If you have an idea for a program, want to host an outing or just plain
want to help out, please don’t hesitate to contact Brian Ruxton or Lori
Lauraitis. They would be glad to hear from you.
The nominating committee for next year’s slate of officers has been formed and
will be meeting prior to the August business meeting to choose their slate. If
you have always wanted to be involved, jump in……the water is fine and the
experience will be a memorable one. To express your interest, please contact
Kathy Wold.
Wishing the best of sailing to you and your crew this season.

AUGUST MEETING
The next general meeting is August 15 at the Burnham Park Yacht Club. If we have
good wind and weather our evening will start about 6:30 p.m. in front of the
Yacht Club with a demonstration of radio controlled sail boats. You’ll see just
how much like our boats these small versions are! The boats and our speaker are
from the Chicago Radio Controlled Sailing Club. The group tries to race at least
once a week all summer long at Humboldt Park, Lincoln Park, and Montrose Harbor.
Members build their own boats (Soling One Meters) and modify them to go fast
(just like us!) . After the demonstration, we’ll hear what’s involved in
building and racing these boats and how they are often used as prototypes for
big boat modifications. It’s sure to be a fun evening!
Dinner at the yacht club will feature a limited menu. If you plan to have dinner
please call the Yacht Club at 312-427-4664 for reservations. Tell them you are
part of the Catalina group. Parking may be available in the old airport parking
lot. At this point no concert is scheduled for Charter One Pavilion; for our
June meeting we were able to park in the airport for free. No guarantees, but it
is a good possibility.
