April 2005
Is Spring finally here? The weather sure feels like it and my calendar keeps reminding me of all the work I have getting ready for boat launch day, so it must be. I am sure each of you are all starting the spring commissioning process as well so good luck to all of you and may your preparation work and launch be done safely.
Thanks again to all who came out to the Saturday meeting at Crowley’s Sail-a-Palooza. We had some fine gifts donated for our raffle there, plus some more goodies for future meetings. Thanks to Keith Church and company for accommodating us. Keith is looking for feedback on the event, so let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement, as well as if you think we should continue having a meeting coinciding with this event.
Kathy Wold and her Outings committee are working hard on a fun-filled schedule events for this season. We’ve included a preliminary outings schedule in this issue of the Fleet Sheet. It’s very much a work in progress. If you have an event you would like to see added, please contact the Outings Committee. Or if you see an event listed that you’d like to help sponsor, contact the Outings Committee. Sponsoring an event is not that difficult. Basically, you decide on an event and a date. You arrange for a place for boats to dock and figure out what people will do when they get there. You could arrange for pizzas to be delivered, haul people to a restaurant, plan a potluck. You do not pay for food. Generally those participating pay their own way. If you need more information, again, call the committee.
I have to sign off for now as Barb and I have to finish packing as we leave for our San Juan cruise tomorrow morning. We are looking forward to the trip, including a little sailing excursion.
Remember our next General Meeting is Thursday 4/21/05 at Columbia Yacht Club. See you there!

FIREBOATS IN
CHICAGO
What is more thrilling
than seeing an arch of water welcoming boats to the harbor? If you’re
lucky you’ve seen that sight on the Chicago lakefront. But fireboats do
much more than that! At our April General Meeting on Thursday, April
21, you can learn all about the history and duties of fireboats in
Chicago. From 1999-2001 Chicago fireboats responded to 415 calls for
assistance. That’s a lot of interesting stories! Hear what those
calls were all about and find out what you can do to prevent a fire on your
boat.
This meeting is at the Columbia Yacht Club which is
located in the ship between Monroe and DuSable Harbors. You can park
in the Field Harbor Parking garage (map enclosed) or park in the underground
Monroe lot. You can get your Field Harbor parking ticket validated at
Columbia for a reduced parking rate. Enjoy dinner at Columbia beginning at
6:30 p.m. Make a reservation by calling 312-938-3625. Tell them you
are with the Catalina group. By 8:00 make your way to the upstairs meeting
room
